I’m just going to say that going into this film, I hadn’t heard much about it and really had no idea what I was in for with this, other than seeing a trailer maybe a week before I saw it and actually wasn’t sure it would be any good. But to be honest with you all, this film is one of the standout films this year and is a must see at the cinema.
Some may be thinking that they haven’t seen the first Cloverfield which was released quite a few years ago now, but you don’t need to see that one to go along and watch this. But you do still have time to watch that before this one anyway, but can go into 10 Cloverfield Lane having watched the first one or not. The reason is that this film takes place in the same sort of world as Cloverfield but is a completely different and fresh story.
What we get with this film is a tense, science fiction thriller. We are introduced to our main character, Michelle ( Mary Elizabeth Winstead), who early on in the film is in a car accident, she wakes up in an underground bomb shelter tied up and possibly kidnapped by Howard (John Goodman). But all is not as it seems, it’s not clear if Howard is a bad guy or if he’s nuts, something has gone on outside and everything is dead out there, there’s poison gas in the air and poor Michelle doesn’t know who to trust. I don’t want to go into the story too much, but it really was well written and it kept me guessing all the way through.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Goodman in 10 Cloverfield Lane
This film comes directed by Dan Trachtenberg who did a phenomenal job with this. So far this year I haven’t really felt that immersed in many films, but this one had me on the edge of me seat all the way through, keeping me satisfied with a good amount or tension and anticipation for what might happen next and I loved that! The IMDB page for this film claims that the budget for 10 Cloverfield Lane was only 5 million dollars and if that is the case, it’s quite low but so well made. I will definitely check out the next Dan Trachtenberg film and since this is his first big film, it’s a great effort.
John Goodman really brings his best to this film, his character is interesting and possibly insane, but he portrays this so well all throughout that you’re never really sure. Mary Elizabeth Winstead was also very good in this and as the main character she held her own very well, there’s nothing I could really fault about her performance, she was just as good as John Goodman and both were excellent on screen together.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Michelle in 10 Cloverfield Lane
There’s nothing really that I can complain about with this film. I love it and I loved the tension that was there and the mystery of what was going on at 10 Cloverfield Lane. Both John Goodmand and Mary Elizabeth Winstead brought us their best here and director Dan Trachtenberg did more than impress me with what he made here. This movie is definitely a must see at the cinema this week, it definitely won’t disappoint you and I hope you have as good a time as I did with this one. So far it’s one of this year’s best and a film that surprisingly really impressed me, I definitely want to see it again.
